Tohoku Rokkon Festival 2013, Fukushima Pref.
1st - 2nd June, 2013 | in Fukushima City, Fukushima Pref.
More than two years have passed since the occurrence of the Great Earthquake on March 11, 2011.
The Tohoku Rokkon Sai Festival, where six big festivals in Tohoku banded together and lit a signal fire for reconstruction, attracted nearly 370 thousand and 250 thousand people to Sendai City and Morioka City respectively and served as a powerful reminder to show the unyielding spirits of people in Tohoku to the whole world.
Now, it is 2013. The Tohoku Rokkon Sai Festival, boasting its third edition this year, will move its stage to Fukushima City.
Fukushima Prefecture is still faced with difficult challenges of the nuclear accident and harmful rumors associated with it besides the damage of the Earthquake and tsunamis . However, there has been strong momentum growing toward reconstruction, fueled by the ever stronger connections among citizens.
In the Tohoku Rokkon Sai Festival this time, twelve cities in Fukushima Prefecture (Aizuwakamatsu, Koriyama, Iwaki, Shirakawa, Sukagawa, Kitakata, Soma, Nihonmatsu, Tamura, Minamisoma, Date and Motomiya) announced their participation in addition to six cities in Tohoku. We will work even more closely with local people than ever and carry out various measures to create opportunities to let visitors enjoy the charms of Tohoku and Fukushima at once.
We believe that the power of spirits gathered to Fukushima will work as vital energy for Tohoku, and eventually, a driving force to lead Japan to a better future.
Taking great pride as people in Tohoku, we hold the Tohoku Rokkon Sai Festival once again in 2013. Your continued support and cooperation would be highly appreciated. (Tohoku Rokkon Festival Executive Committee)
