DORO-UCHI-MATSURI (Mud-Throwing Festival) at Hosaka Aso, Asakura, Fukuoka

23rd March, 2014 | at Hosaka Aso Shrine, Asakura City, Fukuoka  

The Hosaka Aso Shrine is a branch shrine of the Aso Shrine in Higo Kumamoto, which was established for the god of childbirth in the Hosaka district, at the beginning of the Edo era, in 1962 (Genroku 4th yr). DORO-UCHI-MATSURI, which is famous as a peculiar festival in Haki, as well as OSHIROI-MATSURI, has been held for more than 300 years in the Hosaka Aso Shrine.

This festival was designated as a Fukuoka Prefecture Intangible Cultural Treasure in 1958 (Showa 33rd yr).
