OPENING CEREMONY, PARADE - WASH OUT9th - 15th August, 2014 | in Tottori Pref.
The Shan-Shan Festival is the largest festival in Tottori. For its main attraction, about 4,000 participants perform the dance. The origin is said to be a ritual rain-making dance carried on for centuries. The bells attached to the umbrellas make the sound of "shan-shan," so the dance was named the Shan-Shan Umbrella Dance.
