6th February, 2015 | at Kamikura Shrine, Shingu, Wakayama
Otou-matsuri Festival at Kamuikura Shrine affiliated with Kumano Hayatama Taisha shrine in Shingu, Wakayama, features about 2,000 men in white robes running down 538 stone steps with torches, sending flames leaping and sparks flying.
The festival was first held 1,400 years ago and is closed to women.
