Detail Karuta Hajime Shiki Ceremony is a big festival of Yasaka Jinja Shrine held in every January. At first, a few young girls, who are wearing Junihjitoe (The twelve-layered ceremonial kimono worn by a court lady in Heian era) solemnly dedicate Karuta to the God of Yasaka-Jinja Shrine.
After this, Young girls、who are wearing Junihitoe and kimono, start to play Karuta game as the way inherited since the Heian era.
They elegantly but intensely play one-on-one match-game to take a piece of Karuta card faster than the opponent responding to the voice of reading a poem of Ogura Hyakauninisshu (The one hundred famous poems by one hundred famous poets).
