Misawa Atsuhiko: Animals in Kumamoto at Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto

24th June - 3rd September, 2017 | Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto
Misawa Atsuhiko is one of Japan's most popular contemporary sculptors.
He is best known for the series Animals, which he began in 2000, featuring life-sized animals carved from camphor wood with powerful chisel strokes and painted with oil paint.

The subjects range from familiar creatures like cats and dogs, to enormous ones such as bears and elephants, and imaginary beasts like the Pegasus.
Misawa's animals have a truly powerful presence and lifelike expressions that arouse a range of powerful responses in the viewer.

This exhibition features approximately 100 of the artist's sculptures and paintings, including the latest works, as well as an area replicating his studio.

Please enjoy this opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Misawa's Animals.
