3rd - 4th May, 2019 | in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Pref.   Hakata Dontaku Festival in Fukuoka is one of the biggest Golden Week events, with more than 2 million showing up some years. It is celebrated with men, women and young people in fancy costumes parading through 1.3-kilometer stretch of road, escorting other men and women masquerading as legendary gods on horseback to the accompaniment of samisen and drums. There are also baton twirlers and brass bands. About 20,000 people in 200 groups participate in the parade.
